Course details:

This Forestry First Aid Course has been designed to provide the knowledge and competence for a learner to deal with emergency first aid situations in a forestry/agricultural environment. It is also appropriate for grounds people, construction workers or anyone whose risk assessment of First Aid identifies a risk of life threatening (catastrophic) bleeding through the use of equipment and machinery. 


This qualification is designed to supplement a First Aider’s existing First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work qualification and covers the recommended topics stated in the Forestry Commission First Aid policy 2015.


This qualification can also be combined with the 1-day Emergency First Aid at Work or 3-day First Aid at Work course, providing the minimum contact hours and assessment criteria has been achieved.


Syllabus

The range of subjects covered are:

Emergency planning and remote medical assistance 

Catastrophic Bleeding Control
Crush injuries
Effects of extreme cold

Lyme disease


Certification

The practical and theoretical assessment is ongoing throughout the duration of the course and a three year qualification can be offered to all, subject to assessment.

The certificate is valid for 3 years and is issued by First Aid Awards, an Ofqual regulated organisation. Course costs include a comprehensive  manual, all training materials and the certificate.

Mon 16th & tues 17th march 2020- outdoor first aid course

Cost £150 per person. 2 - day Course. Ringwood.

This comprehensive two-day course covers a wide range of First Aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with emergency situations with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way, particularly where professional medical help is not immediately available.


Suitable for anyone working outdoors or in the health & leisure industry, snow sport coaches & instructors, PE teachers, gym instructors, personal trainers etc. 


This course fulfils the requirements of the First Aid element of the expedition syllabus and it is suitable for the Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh awards.


There is sufficient content in this course to satisfy the requirements of the HSE in respect of Emergency First Aid at Work.  An additional certificate can be provided to evidence this to an employer.


A range of outdoor First Aid related subjects are covered including:

• First Aid Equipment • Assessment of the situation • Prioritising treatment

• Environmental factors • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty • Bandaging

• Moving a casualty • Shock (including Anaphylaxis) • Fractures and spinal injuries

• Heart attacks • Choking • Control of bleeding

• Head injuries • Eye injuries • Poisoning

• Chest injuries • Abdominal injuries • Sprains and strains

A three year Level 3 Award in Outdoor First Aid will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment.
