195 Pupils at Marsh Green Primary School Gain Life-Saving Confidence Through Funded First Aid Training

Community investment delivers measurable impact in first aid education

A total of 195 pupils at Marsh Green Primary School are now better equipped to respond in an emergency after completing hands-on first aid training funded by Hill Group and delivered by New Forest First Aid Training Ltd.

The practical session was carefully tailored for primary-aged learners, combining engaging instruction with real-life scenarios to ensure children not only understood the principles of first aid but felt confident applying them.

The impact was both immediate and measurable. Following the training:

  • Knowledge of the recovery position increased by 85%
  • Understanding of DR ABC rose by 86%
  • Knowledge of CPR increased by 79%

These results highlight the significant difference structured, age-appropriate training can make in a short period of time.

Beyond the statistics, the wider benefits are equally important. Early exposure to first aid education helps foster responsibility and resilience, while building bystander confidence and contributing to greater community safety. Equipping children with these skills reduces hesitation in emergencies and encourages a culture of action rather than fear.

When asked whether they would recommend the training to other schools, a representative from Marsh Green Primary School said:

“This course was extremely detailed and hands on with vital skills the children can use, which was delivered in an engaging way.”

A spokesperson from Hill Group commented:

“Training like this is very important as it saves lives. I really enjoyed watching how students got engaged and involved. We, on behalf of the Dagenham Green Project, would like to thank everyone involved in this project for doing this serious subject so much fun and enjoyment.”

James Osborne of New Forest First Aid Training Ltd, added:

“We were delighted to receive outstanding feedback from the school, along with images from students’ workbooks showcasing posters they created following our training session. The posters were impressively detailed and demonstrated a clear understanding of the key topics covered. While the principles of first aid remain constant, it is essential that they are delivered with the learner firmly in mind.”

This training could not happen without the generous contribution to the local community from the Dagenham Green Project, Clare Coombe at Barking and Dagenham Council, The Hill Group, Peabody and Carey London LTD.

New Forest First Aid Training Ltd continues to work alongside schools and local organisations across the UK to expand access to practical first aid education, ensuring more young people leave school with the confidence and capability to act in an emergency.
