Avonwood Primary School was recently joined by former WBO world champion Chris Billam-Smith for an engaging and practical first-aid session with the pupils.
At New Forest First Aid, our goal was simple: help children feel confident if they ever find themselves in an emergency. We began with covering the basics, things like how to call for help, how to stay calm and an introduction to CPR and looking after someone who’s hurt. Chris rolled up his sleeves and got stuck in with the demonstrations, which the children absolutely loved.
Joe Day, Director and Lead Instructor of New Forest First Aid said “we really want every child to feel that they can help someone in need. Having Chris with us made it extra special and really showed the children how important these skills are.”
Chris added, “It’s great seeing kids learning something so valuable. First aid really can save lives and I’m always happy to support sessions like this.”
The team at Avonwood were fantastic hosts and loved how interactive the workshop was. There were lots of questions and lots of brave volunteers!
We’re excited to keep working with local schools to bring these workshops to more children across the area. Helping young people learn life-saving skills early on is something we’re really passionate about and we’re so grateful for the support from the community (and from Chris!) in making that happen.
